San Antonio Lake - Classic V-Drive Club
We'll we went the the lake a couple of weeks ago and it was great! The water was low in the lake at only about 50 percent of capacity but plenty for some boating. We camped at A-Loop with the Classic V-Drive Club of America and saw many fellow members that we had not seen in a couple of years. Brian Lynch the club founder is always there with one of his vintage boats and he hosts a nice get together. The weather was very hot on Saturday and the afternoon BBQ was enjoyed by all. I think there must have been at least 50 v-drives from vintage flats and cruisers to the nasty all-out hydros with fast passes being layed down in the early mornings Friday and Saturday. We even had our own movie theatre hosted by Tim and his outdoor big screen and some real good footage narated by one of the members. Good stuff to say the least! If you have an old or new v-drive boat and are interested in the club go to www.v-driveboats.com

Camping in the Winter
In the winter time many people never go camping. I think some of the better camping is done during the winter months here in the South West where the weather is not so harsh. Car, pickup, and motor home ventures are great and if you have a motorbike or ATV even better. We see all the folks hitting the sand dunes near Palm Springs starting in the fall and that continues until the late Spring when the temperature starts to rise. Desert and coastal camping is awesome during these times and you will usually have fewer crowds to deal with. We make it a annual event in late September or early October to hit a local state park near the beach and hang out for a few days. Since we are local to the area we have friends and family who don't get a chance to camp come down and experience it for the day and have lunch or dinner with us and they truly enjoy the time outdoors. We always eat well and have a good ol' time even if it rains like it did last time out.

Springtime Outdoor Fun in Southern California
Hey everyone it almost Spring!! I know I'm ready for the warm weather as this week we have already seen temps in the 80's in Southern California.
I wanted to remind everyone that lives in the Southern California area to go out and experience the pleasure of living here! Go see the wildflowers that should start appearing soon. A great place is in the Tehachapi's near Gorman. Another area is in the Antelope Valley area or check out Death Valley. Once they start to bloom you'll have about a month to get out and enjoy the beautiful display that nature gives us.
If you love to camp but can't take the time to go far check out some of the great state parks in and around the Los Angeles area. One neat little place that is almost unknown is Malibu Creek State Park. This was once a private ranch and then it became Paramount Pictures property when they filmed much of the M.A.S.H. television show years ago. Now the state owns the land and has turned it into a great place to hike, mountain bike, fish and just enjoy the outdoors. With hundreds of acres of open space come and picnic and spend the day or overnight camp. Bring the horse if you are an equestrian as there are many horse trails to experience. Take a swim with friends and gaze at the mountain views and you may even see a mountain scene that's been on TV and in motion pictures hundreds of times and you never realized it was right here in your own back yard.
If you live in the city check out some of the great parks in your area even for just a few hours. It will help relax you and give you a new perspective on the events of the day.
